Planning Makes Sense – Have You Tried It?

When making changes to lose weight, increase exercise or stop smoking many doctors, health coaches and advice books state that developing a plan for change is essential.  I agree with that approach.  You should set attainable goals with a target date and plan how exactly you are going to make the necessary changes to attain your goals.

What do you think?  Have you ever used such a plan?  What other tricks do you have to share?

  1. I’m good at planning. My problem is sticking to my plan. When I travel I find it’s easy to make excuses for eating too much and skipping my exercise routine. Any tips on how to avoid those lapses?

  2. I also find that spending some time figuring out who I can call on for support has been helpful in the past. Also anticipating problems with the plan is necessary.

  3. It seems no matter what I try it doesn’t work. I love sweets and treats. I’ve tried so many different diets and nothing works. I guess I’ll be fat forever.

    • Don’t give up! Most people who succeed in losing weight often have to try several times before they succeed. Sometimes it seems so overwhelming particularly if you try to change everything at once. Keep food diaries for a few days to determine just how much you really do eat. Look at when you are eating and how those times may be related to what you are doing. You will probably see a pattern or at the very least, times of the day when you routinely eat. Choose one of those times and substitute another activity for eating then. Once you’ve been successful with that change make another, etc. In other words, make your changes one at a time.

Another thing, you said all the diets you’ve tried have failed. Rather than choosing another fad diet, just concentrate on eating healthy and eating smaller portions.

If you spend some time making your weight loss plan and taking it gradually, I know you’ll succeed!

  4. Thank you for such a fantastic web site. On what other blog could anyone get this kind of information written in such an insightful way? I have a presentation that I am just now working on, and I have been looking for such info.
My site is on Heart healthy diet.

  5. I’ve been surfing online more than 3 hours today, yet I never found any interesting article like yours. It is pretty worth enough for me. In my opinion, if all website owners and bloggers made good content as you did, the net will be much more useful than ever before.
